The Curve is an installation piece by French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot where little zebra finches explore the installation space, inadvertently interacting with guitars placed in the space and creating an interesting sound scape.

Augmented Reality or Sixth Sense
The Fluid Interfaces Group at MIT has developed a portable system that allows the user to interface with the internet and view metadata information anywhere without a hand-held device. Think Tom Cruise in Minority Report, using your body to access digital information using any type of surface. In this TED video, Pattie Maes, head of the design/engineer team that built the device, explains how the system works with the help of the systems creator Pranav Minsty.

PyroCardium
Ever want to make interactive art that uses fire, maybe something like 40 flamethrowers blasting fire into the sky? Well, you are not the first. False Profit Laboratories created PyroCardium,
“an interactive fire sculpture that amplifies and illuminates a
person’s actual heartbeat by computercontrolled ignition of a series of flames
arranged along a metal sculpture of a double helix.”

39am Final Project
For my final project in Interactivity, Installation, and Performace, I tried to create an interactive installation that led the viewer through a simulated space. The goal of my project was to create a hanging installation with LED’s that was independent of a computer and wires. I achieved this by using a battery-powered Arduino Duemilanove microcontroller to power the 70 LED’s I soldered onto a 5×2 piece of window screen.
The body of the piece was created with multiple pieces of shaped paper, cut into larger and larger sizes that increase by ¼ inch. The paper was then hung from the screen to create an undulating form that mimics the shape of nudibranchs invertebrates.

LED Dress
This isn’t your everyday LED dress, this dress monitors air pollution and displays air quality via LED’s placed on the dress. Not only is this dress aesthetically appealing but it also integrates environmental concerns in an innovative and personal way.
“The lights pulsate based on the local carbon levels– the faster the pulse, the more dangerous the air conditions.”
The LED’s and carbon detectors are controlled via the arduino lilypad microcontroller. I would be interested to see how this is powered, battery power perhaps? I would be thrilled to see this use a solar-powered battery.
Tron Tennis
The only way to play tennis.
LED action facade
A giant LED wall in Madrid made up of 35,000 LED nodes! The wall was “commission by the Madrid Town Council to develop social interaction and to offer a new digital landmark for their city”. Brilliant!

Video meets graffiti
Using Max Msp artists Bruno Levy and Blake Shaw have created a public performance video piece called Sweet Shoppe. It appears to the viewer that the performer is painting a video onto the surface of a wall. Pretty rad stuff!
