ADCD Paper Fashion Show 2011

8 Jul

This year my sister Ashley and I participated in the Art Director’s Club Denver Paper Fashion Show.  It was a fantastic show with some really, really amazing design. Our little design team set out to create an outfit fit for a female warrior, drawing our inspiration from Moorish and Moroccan tile designs and Roman gladiators. Our model was the fabulous Mia, who rocked our outfit down the runway.

In Illustrator I created 5 tile designs that were cut out and attached together with thread, tape and glue to create an overlapping applique effect. My sister spend days working the applique into a dress, which had the look of armor.

I also created a print design which served as the “fabric” for the vest. I cut out the design in an alternating fashion, revealing a gold painted paper underneath. The gold paint weighted the paper giving it a smooth, almost leather texture.

It was a fun experience, and I can not wait for the next Paper Fashion Show!
